Lexington pitcher Bobby Mathews gave the Mud Hens all they could handle, but in the end, Toledo left Whitaker Park with a win, 2-0. Mathews allowed 2 runs on 4 hits over 8.2 innings. Andy Ashby notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 4-1. The win elevated the Mud Hens to 48-37.

The Mud Hens beat the Thoroughbreds in part due to timely hitting. Case in point: the two-out single Bert Haas produced in the top of the eighth. Batting against Mathews, Haas gave his team a 1-0 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.
