Lexington Thoroughbreds starter Fred Newman was in the groove. He led his team to a win over the Durham Bulls, 3-2. The victory gives the Thoroughbreds a record of 65-31.
In the bottom of the eighth, Lexington center fielder Mike W McCormick hit a run-scoring single to right field. The clutch hit made it, 3-2, Thoroughbreds.
"As well as we've been playing, I think we can play even better," said Lexington manager Jesse Green.
