Firebirds Fall Short at Oakland, 2-1
|
Oakland Oaks starter Jim Buchanan turned in a top-notch performance against the Phoenix Firebirds at Oaks Park. The result was a win for the Oaks, 2-1. The winner was Bob Veale in relief. His record improves to 6-7. Roy Patterson took the loss. Oakland has now won 3 straight, while the Firebirds have lost 3 in a row.
With runs few and far between, the Oaks had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Oakland came in the bottom of the eighth inning, when shortstop Rich Morales delivered a 2-run double. The double was hit off Roy Patterson and made the score 2-1, Oaks. Morales was 1 for 3 with a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"Can't say enough about our pitching," said Morales.
