Trappers Take Down Oaks, 4-3
|
Fans saw a dandy of a game between the Salt Lake City Trappers and Oakland Oaks.
Salt Lake City beat Oakland on the strength of starter Cliff Markle's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-3. Markle went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 9. His record improves to 8-3. Tom Zachary earned the save, his 2nd in 3 tries.
Ron Fairly changed the game with one swing of the bat. With two out in the top of the eighth, the Salt Lake City center fielder hammered a 2-run home run off Bob Veale. It was his 25th home run of the season. With it, Salt Lake City took the lead, 4-2.
"It's Baseball 101," said Salt Lake City manager Brice Jurrens. "Fundamentals."
Salt Lake City, at 51-38, is 4 games up in the High Indy National HIN Midwest.
