Bears Bang Out 7-5 Win Versus Dallas
|
The Denver Bears beat the Dallas Longhorns, 7-5, at Gardner Park. Tom M Foley was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The former first round draft pick was a menace to Dallas all day. Joe Niekro got the win, improving to 4-6. He worked 6 innings, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 5. The Bears bumped their record to 48-42 with this win.
Denver used the clutch hitting of Gene Woodling to capture the win. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Bears ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We'll grab a barley pop and savor this win," said Woodling.
