Firebirds Score Late, Topple Grizzlies, 5-4

The Phoenix Firebirds faced a tough opponent in Fresno pitcher Bucky Walters, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Chuckchansi Park by a final score of 5-4. Walters went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. Phoenix reliever Dave McNally got the win, raising his record to 3-6. Charlie Hilsey was tagged with the loss. Andrew Bailey recorded the save, making him 6 for 8.
The Firebirds got a big boost from right fielder John Sneed who had a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning off Grizzlies hurler Charlie Hilsey. It was his 19th hit of the season and put Phoenix on top, 5-4.
"I was a little disappointed," said Fresno manager David Wadkins. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
Phoenix is now 44-58. Fresno is 59-43.
