Tigers Come Back Late, Nip Oaks
|
The Venice Tigers had to overcome a fine effort from Oakland pitcher George Bechtel to grab a narrow 5-4 win at Oaks Park. Bechtel went 8 innings and allowed 2 runs. Dan Plesac, now 5-7, was credited with the win. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Joe Biagini earned his 10th save in 17 chances.
Venice used a timely hit from Rick Dempsey to get the win. The designated hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"The chili dogs will taste better tonight after this win," said the ever-candid Dempsey.
Venice, at 48-62, occupies last place in the High Indy National HIN West.
