Clamdiggers Win Again, 8-5, Extend Streak to 7
|
The Providence Clamdiggers grabbed a win, 8-5, over the Rockford Peaches at Messer Street Grounds. Providence shortstop Leon McFadden was 2-3 with a double and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Providence reliever Bill V Swift picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. George Zuverink shouldered the loss. Picking up the save was Sean Burnett. He's now 6 for 8 in save chances.
Gino Cimoli had a timely hit in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, the Providence left fielder hit a run-scoring single. That put the Clamdiggers in front, 8-5.
"Obviously," said Rockford manager Lance Brant, "we're in a tailspin right now."
The losses continue to pile up for Rockford, which has now fallen 9 times in a row.
