The bat of Jim Piersall helped the Flint Gems top the Rockford Peaches, 7-4. Piersall went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for Flint. Flint reliever Bill Gullickson picked up the win, upping his record to 4-7. George Zuverink was saddled with the loss. At 42-48, the Gems find themselves in third place in the WBL Mid American INDY A - Midwest.

Ramon Santiago drove in one run for Flint. The 27-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off George Zuverink. It was his 23rd RBI of the season.

In postgame comments, Santiago told the Flint Observer: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
