The Rockford Peaches got a sterling performance from designated hitter Henry Schmidt, but the Canton Terriers still prevailed, 5-4. Schmidt went 2 for 3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Bob Scanlan picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 2-0. Brad Hennessey was tagged with the loss. The win puts Canton at 67-47 this season.

Had Jose Pagan not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Pagan hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Terriers.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Canton manager Vince Miller.
