The Providence Clamdiggers wasted an impressive 9-inning effort from starter Larry Pape, falling 1-0 to the Flint Gems at Atwood Stadium. The Gems raised their record to 47-68.

Coming to the plate with one out in the bottom of the 12th inning, Flint catcher George Kottaras had a chance to be the hero. Facing Providence pitcher Pedro Ramos with the bases loaded, Kottaras, who is tied for 4th in the AMA in bases on balls with 57, hit a sacrifice fly.

"The ending was a real humdinger," Kottaras told reporters after the game.
