Bakersfield pitcher Tim Leary did his part in helping his team beat the Honolulu Islanders, 5-3. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Clay Hensley picked up the save, his 2nd. The Blaze, at 27-19, lead by one game in their division.

Pete Scott went 2-5 with a double, while adding 3 RBI for Bakersfield. The 30-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the third. With two out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a bases-clearing double off Travis Driskill. It was his 14th double of the season.

Scott told a Bakersfield Observer reporter he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
