The El Paso Sun Kings racked up a win at Fair Grounds Field, bumping off the Shreveport Swamp Dragons, 3-1. Curly Ogden, who started for El Paso, pitched effectively for his team. Ogden got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 7 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. Ogden allowed no runs. The win hiked the El Paso record to 27-21.

A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 2nd and one out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when catcher Jimmie Schaffer, who was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2000 draft, hit a run-scoring double. The Sun Kings went on to win.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Schaffer told the El Paso Daily News.
