Swamp Dragons Turn Away Thunder, 7-5
|
The Shreveport Swamp Dragons beat the Trenton Thunder, 7-5, at Mercer County Grounds. The Swamp Dragons got a fine performance from second baseman Eddie Mayo, who was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. Bud Podbielan earned the win to go to 4-2. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts in 7 innings of work. Bob Reynolds earned save number 7 this season.
Shreveport used the timely hitting of Jay Bruce to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Swamp Dragons on top, 7-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We played hard and won," said Mayo. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'
The Swamp Dragons, now 23-27, know that wins in July count the same as wins in September.
