In a low-scoring affair between the Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Trenton Thunder, pitcher Hugh Bedient was the difference between victory and defeat. The Richmond right-hander earned accolades in the 3-2 Flying Squirrels win. Bedient went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 4-5. Matt Belisle converted his 12th save in 15 tries.

Bud Harrelson's at-bat in the top of the fifth was significant for the Flying Squirrels. Coming to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd and Richmond trailing 2-1, the Flying Squirrels shortstop hit a run-scoring single.

Bedient told a Richmond Bulletin reporter he was "pleased as punch" with the win.

Richmond is now 25-31. Trenton is 38-18.
