Elefantes Come Back Late to Top Rats, 4-3
|
The Cienfuegos Elefantes did just enough to sneak past the Chattanooga Rats, 4-3, at Estadio 5 de Septiembre. Cienfuegos pitcher Doc Medich, in particular, had a standout performance. Kelvin Herrera, credited with the win, is now 3-4. He allowed 1 run on 1 hit. The victory puts Cienfuegos at 25-40.
Bob W Johnson was the walk-off hero for Cienfuegos. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Elefantes shortstop hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Elefantes manager Jeremy Stevanus. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
