Tommy Hughes never let the Islanders get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Flying Squirrels to a win, 2-1. Getting the save was Matt Belisle, his 17th. The 'W' lifts Richmond's record to 33-39.
Drew Sutton, the 29-year old third baseman , had a direct impact on the outcome. Sutton contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Richmond up, 2-1.
Sutton was in a reflective mood after the contest. He told the Richmond Bulletin, "Every game is it's own challenge. That's what keeps the competitive fire alive."
