The Chattanooga Rats got a stellar performance from pitcher Bob Chipman, who handcuffed the Honolulu offense en route to a win, 4-0, at Engel Stadium. In 5 innings, Chipman surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Paul Shuey converted his 2nd save in 3 tries.

In the bottom of the fifth, Roy McMillan delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and a runner on 3rd, the Chattanooga shortstop hit a run-scoring single, putting the Rats in front, 4-0.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Chipman told the Chattanooga Bulletin.

The Rats' win now puts them at 30-43.
