Flying Squirrels Score Late, Stun Bunchgrassers, 2-1
|
The Richmond Flying Squirrels eked out a 2-1 win versus the Spokane Bunchgrassers at Ferris Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Mike Krukow. He was terrific. Brian Fisher, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 0. The save was Matt Belisle's, his 18th.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Ezequiel Carrera came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Spokane pitcher D J Carrasco, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Richmond on top, 2-1.
"Runs were at a premium," said Richmond manager Nate Hoffman.
The third-place Flying Squirrels go to 34-39.
