Chattanooga got a first-rate effort from pitcher Johnny Podres, who frustrated Mobile hitters en route to a 3-1 Rats triumph at Engel Stadium. Felipe Rivero got the save, his 10th in 11 chances. The win puts Chattanooga at 34-49.

The Bay Bears had few good swings against Podres, the left-hander, who threw 97 pitches over 7 innings. He allowed just 1 run on 2 hits.

"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Podres. "But I have better dreams after a win."
