Shreveport got a first-rate effort from pitcher Joe Willis, who frustrated Richmond hitters en route to a 3-1 Swamp Dragons triumph at Fair Grounds Field. The winning pitcher was Willis, now 8-4. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 6. Bob Reynolds was credited with the save, his 16th in 20 tries.

Sig Broskie, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2000 draft, aided the Shreveport cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the designated hitter was 1-3 with a double.

"This was a tough loss," said Richmond manager Nate Hoffman. "It'll stick in my craw for a while."

The Swamp Dragons now own a record of 41-44.
