Cavarretta Goes Wild, But Rats Win
|
The Chattanooga Rats and El Paso Sun Kings completed their game despite the inclement weather.
The Chattanooga Rats outlasted Phil Cavarretta and the El Paso Sun Kings, 8-7. Cavarretta was impressive in the loss. The El Paso first baseman was 4-5 with 2 home runs and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Felipe Rivero got the save, his 12th in 13 chances.
In the top of the eighth, Art Shamsky turned a fastball from Dan Wheeler into a 3-run home run to right. It put Chattanooga on top, 8-6. For the game, Shamsky was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said El Paso manager Will Croskey. "The effort was great."
With the win, the Rats improved to 36-50.
