Dominant Performance by Erskine in El Paso Win
|
El Paso and Cienfuegos put this game in the books despite some rain.
The El Paso Sun Kings tallied a win at Estadio 5 de Septiembre, throttling the Cienfuegos Elefantes, 2-1. Starting pitcher Carl Erskine was a big reason for his team's success. Red Evans earned the save, his 13th in 15 tries.
Erskine, a native of Anderson, Indiana, was dealing all game. He kept Cienfuegos hitters off-balance, while giving the Sun Kings 7.2 quality innings. Erskine threw 108 pitches, allowing 4 hits and striking out 11.
"Not everyone likes pitching duels," said Erskine. "But I do."
The victory gives the Sun Kings a record of 48-39.
