Elefantes Curb Thunder, 9-7
|
The Trenton Thunder got a superb performance from left fielder Carlos May. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Cienfuegos. The Elefantes won the game, 9-7. May went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Joe H Coleman, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-9. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 11 hits and 6 runs, while striking out 11 and walking 1. Kelvin Herrera earned his 10th save in 13 chances.
Lefty O'Doul took Brandon Backe deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 3-run home run put the Elefantes in front, 9-6. For the game, O'Doul went 2-5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Elefantes manager Jeremy Stevanus. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
The win has Cienfuegos at 36-64.
