Thunder Win at Bakersfield, 8-6
|
Trenton right fielder Tyler Moore contributed to his team's 8-6 win over the Bakersfield Blaze. Moore went 2 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Thunder. Trenton reliever Brandon Backe picked up the win, upping his record to 4-4. Clay Hensley was saddled with the loss. John Franco earned the save, his 33rd in 33 tries.
Trenton first baseman Dick Gernert had a key at-bat for the Thunder in the top of the ninth inning. Facing right-hander Clay Hensley, Gernert reached on an error by the center fielder, driving in 1 run. It put Trenton in front, 7-6. For the day, Gernert drew 1 walk in 5 trips to the plate.
"It was a solid team effort," Gernert said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
