Bakersfield Blaze starter Ernie Broglio was on his game, helping his team beat the Tucson Sidewinders, 3-2. Broglio got the win, improving to 8-13. He allowed 7 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Broglio allowed 2 runs. Cla Meredith converted his 23rd save in 28 tries.
The Blaze got a big boost from catcher Steve Clevenger who had a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth inning off Sidewinders hurler Eric O'Flaherty. It was his 45th hit of the season and put Bakersfield on top, 3-2.
"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Broglio told the Bakersfield Observer.
The win for the Blaze raised their record to 59-50.
