Morton Handcuffs Bronchos, Thoroughbreds Seize 2-0 Advantage in R1
|
Charlie A Morton pitched a gem to help the Lexington Thoroughbreds escape with a tight 2-0 victory over the Calgary Bronchos in a low-scoring Round 1 contest today. The right-handed Morton threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Thoroughbreds on a day when their offense dried up. Lexington now leads the best-of-7 series 2-0.
Morton, who was born in Flemington, New Jersey, threw 101 pitches over 7 innings, while allowing no runs.
"There was a kid in the stands with a sign that said 'Lexington Thoroughbreds (probably) 2000 Round 3 Champions'," Morton told reporters after the game. "I told him, 'Premature, but I like the confidence.'"
The next game is set to be played for Friday, August 18th , 2000 at Anaheim Stadium in Calgary.
