The Calgary Bronchos have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Lexington Thoroughbreds, winning 3-1 at Anaheim Stadium today. Bronchos right-hander Marcus Stroman threw 7.0 innings allowing 1 runs. The win cuts the deficit facing the Bronchos to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Round 1.

Freddie Freeman, who led the HIA in OPS with 1.130 in 2000, chipped in for Calgary with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 2 RBI.

"Tough loss," said Lexington manager Jesse Green. "But we'll learn from it."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Anaheim Stadium in Calgary.
