Trappers Win to Extend Series Lead to 3-0
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of third baseman Dick Billings, the Salt Lake City Trappers got a road win against the Denver Bears, 4-2, in Game 3 of the Round 1 today. Billings went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 for the Trappers, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 3 games to 0.
An important at-bat for the Trappers came in the top of the fifth, when shortstop Eric McNair stroked a 2-run home run. That made the score 3-2 in favor of Salt Lake City. For the day, McNair was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"Ever since we qualified for the playoffs, the guys have been razzing me about how I'm going to embarrass myself out there," the rookie McNair said with a smile. "I'm glad to prove them wrong, at least for a day."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Bears Stadium in Denver.
