Friday, May 11th , 2001
Newark first baseman Fred Whitfield led the Eagles to a triumph, 11-5, over the Milwaukee Brewers, crushing three home runs.
"He's scary good when he's swinging the bat like that," said Newark skipper John Harrill.
Indeed, Whitfield put up some "scary good" numbers: three homers, 3 hits in 4 at-bats with 3 runs and 5 RBIs.
"I'm just thinkin' about winning ballgames," Whitfield said. "When you think about home runs, you very seldom get 'em."
Fred Whitfield hit a solo-shot off Herb Pennock in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Herb Pennock in the 6th and hit a three-run home run off Brett Myers in the 7th.
