Rudi Torches Rays for 5 Hits
Tuesday, June 5th , 2001
It doesn't happen very often, but it did for Joe Rudi -- a 5-hit day. He went on a rampage and sparkled on the diamond at Shrine on Airline, but the performance lost a little luster when the Pelicans were downed, 6-5, by the Orlando Rays.
After his glittering performance, the New Orleans left fielder told the press that he "just tried to get myself in a good count and have a good at-bat."
His batting theory paid dividends today as he slammed 5 hits in 7 tries and put his name in the record book.
"I just wish we had added a win in the record book, too," Rudi said.
Joe Rudi flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Bob Forsch in the 6th, singled in the 8th, singled in the 11th and struck out in the 13th.
This season, Rudi is hitting .328 with 38 hits, 8 home runs, 21 RBIs, scored 21 runs and played in 27 games.
