Frey, Taylor Receive 4-Game Suspensions
Thursday, June 28th , 2001
At a recent Tigers-Bees contest at Candlestick Park, Lonny Frey of Cincinnati took exception to what Billy Taylor of San Jose said to him and tackled him. This led to an old-fashioned bench-clearing free-for-all between the two clubs. After the umpires restored order, they ejected both players.
Today the league commissioner's office took action and suspended each player for 4 games, citing them for "inappropriate and aggressive conduct."
So far this year, Frey is batting .267 with 8 home runs and 37 RBIs.
Taylor has taken the mound for 5 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 0-0 record with a 3.86 ERA. The San Jose reliever has limited opposing batters to a .259 batting average.
