Big Bang! 3 HR for Las Vegas's Álvarez
Thursday, July 5th , 2001
It was a good day for the Las Vegas Aces and an exceptional one for Pedro Álvarez. The 26-year-old third baseman sent three bombs out of the park to help the Aces beat the New Orleans Pelicans, 13-6, at Cashman Field.
"When you're in the zone, the game really slows down," Álvarez said when asked about his performance later. "I couldn't even tell you what pitches were thrown. Today feels great, but it is a long season and tomorrow is another day."
For the day, he scored 3 times, drove in 6 runs and smacked 3 hits in 4 at-bats.
Pedro Álvarez hit a two-run home run off Bill Hogg in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Bill Hogg in the 3rd, walked in the 4th, struck out in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Carl Mays in the 8th.
For the year, Álvarez has hit at a .235 clip with 45 RBIs, 23 home runs and 33 runs scored.
