Going Once! Twice! Gone Again! 3 HR for Walling Monday, July 23rd , 2001 Denny Walling went yard three times in a San Jose Bees victory over the Norfolk Tides at Kauffman Stadium. "I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit." For the day, the San Jose third baseman went 4-for-5 against Norfolk with 4 RBIs and 4 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Bees to the 15-13 win. "I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out." Denny Walling hit a solo-shot off John Clarkson in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Pete Alexander in the 5th, flied out in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off Ray Fontenot in the 8th. This year, Walling has hit at a .281 pace and produced 40 RBIs, 14 home runs and scored 26 runs. |
