Going, Going, Gone! Betemit Hits 3 Homers Friday, August 17th , 2001 It was a good day for the Atlanta X Giants and an exceptional one for Wilson Betemit. The 28-year-old third baseman sent three bombs out of the park to help the X Giants beat the Orlando Rays, 7-6, at Ponce de Leon Park. "When you're in the zone, the game really slows down," Betemit said when asked about his performance later. "I couldn't even tell you what pitches were thrown. Today feels great, but it is a long season and tomorrow is another day." For the day, he scored 3 times, drove in 4 runs and smacked 4 hits in 6 at-bats. Wilson Betemit hit a solo-shot off Denny Lemaster in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Denny Lemaster in the 4th, grounded out in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Aaron Barrett in the 9th, flied out in the 11th and hit an RBI single in the 13th. To date Betemit has chalked up a .260 average with 20 home runs, driven in 37 runs and scored 45 times. |
