X Giants Advance to Round 2 Saturday, September 2nd , 2000 The Round 1 may not have lived up to the expectation that it would be a dogfight that would go the distance. The Atlanta X Giants, however, are not complaining. The X Giants were plenty happy to have wrapped up the series early and to have knocked out the Toronto Maple Leafs to advance to the Round 2. Atlanta won the final game by a 5-2 count at SkyDome and the series 4-1. X Giants center fielder Ginger Beaumont was named series MVP, as he hit .545 with a .565 on-base percentage. He added 1 home runs, drove in 3 RBI and scored 7 runs. "It's not going to be the last time Toronto makes it to the playoffs, so it's sure a nice feeling to put them out this year," Beaumont said. "We just need to keep this going and take it day by day." The Atlanta X Giants don't know who they will face in the next round. They will play the winner of the Queens Kings - St. Louis Blues series. Queens leads the series 3 games to 1. The Round 2 schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes. |
