Blast Off! 3 HR for Konerko Friday, June 23rd , 2000 Paul Konerko brutalized the Durham Bulls pitching staff, launching three home runs in today's 30-4 victory at The DAP. The Boston Pilgrims first baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day. "I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one." For the game, he went 3-for-7 with 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Too much Paul Konerko today," Bulls manager Vinny Sandoval said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to." Paul Konerko flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Lefty Hoerst in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, struck out in the 6th, hit a three-run home run off George Bjorkman in the 7th, flied out in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off Sammy Esposito in the 9th. Konerko is hitting .297 for the season with 10 home runs, 37 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 52 hits in 175 at-bats and played in 49 games. |
