Bronchos End Sconiers's Streak
Saturday, July 15th , 2000
Tampa Bay first baseman Daryl Sconiers came into today's game against the Calgary Bronchos on a hot streak. He left on a cold one.

The Bronchos did their jobs well, beating the Tampa Bay Tarpons 6-3 and holding Sconiers hitless to snap his 22-game hitting streak. The 25-year-old first baseman had a few words to say after finishing 0-for-4, telling reporters only that he "came up short."

"What Daryl did was exciting and quite an achievement," said Tarpons manager Travis Jackson. "It's tough enough to get one hit in this league, much less go 22 games in a row. I'm even more proud of the way he handled the press coverage. He never let the frenzy get to him or affect his play."

This season Sconiers is swinging the bat at a .330 rate with 125 hits in 379 at-bats. To date he has hit 20 home runs, scored 55 runs and driven in 68.
