Thoroughbreds Win Round 1 Sunday, August 20th , 2000 The Lexington Thoroughbreds triumphed 4-2 over the Calgary Bronchos at Anaheim Stadium in the Round 1 to capture it 4-1. The victory advanced the Thoroughbreds to the Round 2. For his superb play in the series, Thoroughbreds catcher Sammy Taylor garnered the series MVP trophy, hitting .467, scoring 3 runs and batting in 4. "Only thing better than getting MVP for winning in the playoffs would be winning MVP for winning in the Round 3," Taylor said later. "I'll get to work on that." The Lexington Thoroughbreds will play against the Tampa Bay Tarpons in the next round. Tampa Bay won their series against the Toledo Mud Hens 4 games to 1.
