Etten Strokes 3 HR Against Tampa Bay
Tuesday, August 29th , 2000
Lexington Thoroughbreds first baseman Nick Etten sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little.
Prior to the start of today's contest with the Tampa Bay Tarpons, Etten told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times.
"During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber."
The big day from Etten pushed the Thoroughbreds past the Tarpons, 14-6. To go along with the homers, he collected 5 RBIs and scored 4 runs.
"I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Etten told reporters after the game.
Nick Etten flied out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Brandon Beachy in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Jim Hardin in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Ray Kremer in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.
Etten currently has a .309 batting average with 142 hits, 42 homers, 104 RBIs, 90 runs scored and a .397 OBP.
