Islanders, Danks Buzz Thunder, 2-0
Thursday, August 17th , 2000
In an outstanding mound performance, Honolulu Islanders starter John Danks fired a complete-game shutout against the Trenton Thunder at Mercer County Grounds today.
Danks was the key to the Islanders's 2-0 win. The 24-year-old left-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 6 hits and 1 walk he allowed.
"6 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."
This season Danks has a 10-6 mark in 19 starts with a 3.17 ERA. He has given up 125 hits in 139 innings, struck out 166 and issued 37 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .235 batting average against him.
