Hunter Belts 5 Hits
Monday, August 28th , 2000
A jubilant Torii Hunter joined the postgame press conference at The Dudley Dome today to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Tucson Sidewinders pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the El Paso Sun Kings center fielder, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-7 hitting performance, which led the Sun Kings to a 8-6 win.
"He made it look easy," said Dusty Cali, manager of the Sidewinders. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Torii Hunter struck out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 8th, doubled in the 10th and hit a two-run home run off Hal Brown in the 13th.
Thus far this year Hunter has hit .282 with 23 home runs and 56 RBIs.
