The Roanoke Magicians bested the Lynchburg Hillcats, 7-6, at Bank of the James Field. Granny Hamner was one of the standouts. He was 2 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Fred Blanding got the win, improving to 5-5. He worked 6.1 innings, giving up 6 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Bill Simas recorded the save for Roanoke, his 5th of the season.
It could have been a different outcome for Roanoke, had it not been for Jerry Kenney, the 27-year old third baseman . Kenney contributed a bases-clearing triple in the top of the second inning to put Roanoke up, 3-1.
"Nothing is scripted in this game," said Kenney.
The win puts Roanoke at 29-24 this season.
