Gilliam Socks 2 Home Runs in 16-5 Lynchburg Win
|
Not everyone stuck through the 61-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
With third baseman Jim Gilliam leading the charge, the Lynchburg Hillcats defeated the Galveston Black Pirates, 16-5, at Bank of the James Field. Gilliam, who is tied for 6th in the ARA in bases on balls with 31, hit 2 home runs. He scored 4 runs and drove in 6. Fred Cambria, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-1. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 5 hits and 5 runs, while striking out 4 and walking 1.
Lynchburg first baseman Justin Smoak helped the cause with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the first. For the game, Smoak hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice.
"We'll sip on a cold one and savor this win," said Smoak.
The win gives Lynchburg a season record of 35-26.
