The New York Black Yankees trumped the Cleveland Spiders, 8-5, at League Park. New York first baseman Don Mattingly was terrific. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Andy Pettitte earned the win for New York. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 6. With the win, he raised his record to 11-7. Goose Gossage got the save, his 12th in 14 chances.

Early in the game, Mattingly had a grand slam home run for New York. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Black Yankees on top, 4-0.

"Every time I go up there, I try and hit a ball hard," said Mattingly.

The win gives New York a season record of 60-46.
