Kell Rips 2 Home Runs in 8-3 Sugar Kings Triumph
|
Fans were not deterred by the threat of rain. They came to see their hometown Havana Sugar Kings take on the Camagüey Toros.
The Havana Sugar Kings defeated the Camagüey Toros by the score of 8-3. George Kell starred for Havana, going 3-for-4 with 2 home runs. Jim Bullinger, the winning pitcher, improved to 6-10. He pitched 9 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 14 and walking 1.
In the bottom of the third, Havana left fielder Ernie Koy had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and one out, Koy stroked a run-scoring triple to right. It made the score 2-0, Havana. For the game, he went 3 for 4 with a triple and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2.
"I was hoping to make good contact," said Kell. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."
The Sugar Kings go to 27-76 with the win.
