Sea Lions Waste Great Game from Stearnes
The San Francisco Sea Lions got a superb performance from center fielder Turkey Stearnes, but the Miami Cuban Giants still won the game, 12-9. Stearnes went 4 for 5 with 2 home runs and a double, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. The win was credited to Eustaquio Pedroso in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Bump Hadley took the loss. The second-place Cuban Giants have won 4 straight games.

José Canseco had a big 3-run home run for the Cuban Giants in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Miami leading 9-8 and runners on 1st and 3rd, he sized up a slider from 31-year old right-handed pitcher Mel Stottlemyre Sr and punished it. The result was his 46th home run of the season, which put the Cuban Giants on top, 12-8.

"It's still just a game," said Canseco, "whether you win or lose."
