Red Sox Upend Sea Dogs, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Memphis Red Sox and the Portland Sea Dogs, 25-year old right-handed pitcher Len Barker proved to be the difference. The Memphis right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Red Sox win. Barker got the win, improving to 7-10. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 5.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Jonathan Papelbon notched his 16th save in 21 chances.
Bill White, who is on pace for 111 RBI this season, had a direct impact on the outcome. White contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put Memphis up, 3-1.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Portland manager Daniel Makonnen. "But we decided not to take it."
At 51-54, the Red Sox claim 4th place in the American League Bill James Division.
