The New York Gothams picked up a win at Shibe Park AL, knocking off the Philadelphia Stars, 8-4. Starting pitcher Don Sutton played a key role in the triumph. Sutton, now 11-4, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. New York is now 52-57, Philadelphia 53-55.

New York left fielder Don Buford contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the fourth. With two down, he hit a slider to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 15th hit of the season and put the Gothams ahead, 3-2.

"Don was dictating to their hitters," said New York manager Daniel Makonnen.
