Black Spiders Fall to Erie, 10-1
|
The Erie Blackbirds beat the Mineola Black Spiders, 10-1, at Mineola Temp. The win was due in part to right fielder Rusty Torres, who was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 4. George Winter earned the win for Erie. He lasted 6.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 10 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 2-4. The Black Spiders, at 17-29, have lost 13 in a row.
There was more than one reason the Blackbirds beat the Black Spiders, but Torres's big at-bat in the top of the fourth was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-0 lead when he hit a 2-run double.
"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Mineola skipper Min-hyuk Im.
